Stories from
the edge.

Real stories from the edge. Told slow, read deep.

Where the map turns green

At the foot of the Virunga volcanoes sits a town that has learned to grow without turning its back on the forest above it. Musanze is what the edge looks like when it works.

The compost and the gorilla

On the eastern edge of Bwindi, where the forest gives way to a quilt of small farms, a gorilla steps out of the trees most mornings. For years, that was a problem. Today it is the start of a different kind of story.

Drawing the lane

A field unit sets out before dawn to walk the line where the volcano’s forest meets the highest farms. The work is part survey, part diplomacy, and entirely about the space in between.

The power of a story

Conservation is often told in numbers. But it is stories that change the room — and the rights that follow people and wildlife long after the meeting ends.
